Sports Injury Treatment in Thirumullaivoyal

Sports injury assessment and treatment by Dr Sumesh Subramanian at OrthoCure Bone & Joint Speciality Clinic, Thirumullaivoyal, serving Ambattur, Avadi, and Annanur.

Conservative care first, with surgery for selected injuries when it clearly improves stability and return to sport.

When should you go to a hospital ER?

If there is severe bleeding, visible deformity, inability to move the limb, suspected head injury, or chest pain or difficulty breathing, please visit a major hospital Emergency Room immediately.

Not sure if it is a sprain or a serious injury?

Many sports injuries look similar in the first day. Please visit us soon if any of these are present.

  • Severe swelling within a few hours of injury.
  • Inability to bear weight or use the limb.
  • The joint keeps giving way during walking.
  • Locking, catching, or inability to fully straighten the knee.
  • Repeated shoulder dislocation, or a feeling that the shoulder is slipping out.

We have on site Digital X ray to confirm fractures quickly, when clinically required. MRI is advised only when needed after examination.

How do we treat sports injuries?

Not every sports injury needs surgery. Many injuries improve with accurate diagnosis, safe early movement, and structured rehabilitation. Dr Sumesh follows a conservative first approach, and surgery is discussed only when clearly needed after examination.

Accurate clinical diagnosis

Examination helps identify ligament, tendon, muscle, and joint injuries and guides the right next step.

Early pain and swelling control

Short term measures reduce inflammation and allow safer movement. Prolonged rest is avoided.

Support when required

Braces, taping, or slings may be used for protection, especially in early unstable injuries.

Physiotherapy guided rehabilitation

Strength, balance, and control training support return to sport with reduced reinjury risk.

What sports injuries do we commonly treat?

  • Ankle sprains and ligament injuries.
  • Knee injuries including meniscus and ligament tears.
  • Muscle strains of thigh, calf, and shoulder.
  • Shoulder pain, instability, and recurrent dislocation.
  • Tennis elbow and overuse injuries.
  • Sports related fractures and stress injuries.

If you already have X rays or MRI films from elsewhere, please bring them along.

What should you do in the first day?

  • Protect the injured area and avoid painful loading.
  • Use a cold pack briefly with a cloth barrier.
  • Elevate if swelling is significant.
  • Avoid aggressive stretching in the first day.
  • Seek evaluation if pain, swelling, or instability is significant.

A calm early plan helps. The priority is timely assessment when red flags are present.

When surgery may be required

Many sports injuries recover well without surgery. However, some injuries benefit from surgical treatment, especially in physically active individuals who need reliable stability to return to sport. Final decisions are always made after examination by Dr Sumesh Subramanian, based on symptoms, instability, activity goals, and imaging when needed.

Complete ACL tear with instability

When there are repeated giving way episodes or functional instability that limits sport, surgery may be advised for stability.

Recurrent shoulder dislocation or instability

Repeated dislocations or a shoulder that slips out during sports often needs stabilisation surgery for safe return to activity.

Selected meniscus tears

Mechanical locking, catching, or persistent symptoms may require arthroscopic treatment in selected cases.

Failed conservative care

If structured rehabilitation does not restore function or stability, surgery may be considered after reassessment.

Surgery is not recommended routinely for every injury. It is advised only when it clearly improves long term stability, function, and return to sport.

Common questions?

Do you do Digital X ray at the clinic?

Yes. We have a modern Digital X ray unit. It helps rule out fractures quickly when clinically required.

Do all ligament tears need surgery?

No. Many ligament injuries improve with rehabilitation. Surgery is considered mainly when there is persistent instability, repeated giving way, or high demand sports goals after examination.

When is MRI required?

MRI is advised when clinical examination suggests ligament, meniscus, tendon, or cartilage injury that needs detailed assessment, or when symptoms are not improving as expected.

Can I return to sports quickly?

Return to sport is based on function, strength, and stability, not only pain relief. A guided progression reduces reinjury risk.
